How We Met

1. Introduction

Welcome to How We Met, a storytelling subdivision of FirstFive Magazine (“First Five,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

How We Met exists to document and publish real stories of how couples met, fell in love, navigated early marriage, blended families, and transitioned beyond the honeymoon phase. Through articles, interviews, essays, audio, video, and curated submissions, we aim to support newlyweds and new-blended families as they learn each other and grow together during the first five years of love, marriage, and parenting.

These Terms and Conditions (“How We Met Terms”) govern your access to and participation in How We Met.

2. Governing Relationship to First Five Magazine

How We Met is not an independent legal entity. It operates fully under and as part of First Five Magazine.

These How We Met Terms are fully subject to and incorporated into the First Five Magazine Terms and Conditions (Last Updated: 10 February 2026).
All rights, protections, disclaimers, limitations of liability, editorial discretion, AI policies, indemnities, and jurisdiction clauses contained in the First Five Magazine Terms apply equally to How We Met.
In the event of any inconsistency between these How We Met Terms and the First Five Magazine Terms, the First Five Magazine Terms shall prevail at all times.

By accessing or submitting content to How We Met, you confirm that you have read and agreed to the First Five Magazine Terms and Conditions.

3. Eligibility

You are at least 18 years of age or legally permitted to enter into binding agreements in your jurisdiction;
You have the legal authority to share any story, photographs, or media submitted;
Your submission does not violate any confidentiality obligations, court orders, or third-party rights.

4. Nature of Content

Content published on How We Met is intended for storytelling, educational reflection, relational encouragement, and creative expression.

All content is provided for informational and inspirational purposes only.

How We Met does not provide legal advice, financial advice, psychological or marital therapy, or professional counseling services. Readers are encouraged to seek licensed professional support where necessary.

5. Story Submissions and Contributor Content

5.1 Ownership

You retain ownership of your original Story Content unless otherwise agreed in writing.

5.2 License Grant

By submitting Story Content to How We Met, you grant FirstFive Magazine a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual, and irrevocable license to:

Publish, reproduce, display, distribute, archive, and promote the Story Content;
Edit for clarity, length, formatting, tone, and editorial consistency;
Use the Story Content across the First Five website, the How We Met subdivision, social media platforms, newsletters, digital publications, promotional campaigns, and press materials.

This license remains valid even if your Story Content is later removed or your contributor relationship ends.

5.3 Consent of Third Parties

If your Story Content includes identifiable information, photographs, or personal experiences involving another individual (such as a spouse, former partner, or child), you confirm that:

You have obtained appropriate consent where legally required; or
The content is shared in a lawful and non-defamatory manner.

First Five Magazine reserves the right to request written consent documentation.

6. Editorial Discretion

In addition to the editorial discretion outlined in the FirstFive Magazine Terms, How We Met reserves the sole and absolute right to:

Accept or reject any story submission;
Edit for clarity, tone, anonymity, or sensitivity;
Change identifying details where necessary to protect privacy;
Remove or archive Story Content at any time.

Submission does not guarantee publication.

7. AI Policy (Applicable to How We Met)

The AI provisions contained in the FirstFive Magazine Terms apply in full.

Stories must not be generated, written, or substantially altered using AI tools.
Limited AI use is permitted only for grammar or stylistic refinement.
We may request original drafts to verify authenticity.
Submissions flagged for excessive AI use, plagiarism, or lack of originality may be rejected or removed.

Authentic human storytelling is central to the mission of How We Met.

8. Independent Contributor Status

All contributors participate as independent contributors under the framework set out in the First Five Magazine Terms.

Unless explicitly agreed in writing:

Contributions are voluntary and unpaid;
No royalties, licensing fees, or compensation are owed;
No employment, partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship is created.

9. Intellectual Property

All branding, editorial frameworks, layouts, features, and original material created by First Five Magazine for How We Met remain the intellectual property of First Five Magazine and are protected under Nigerian copyright law and applicable international treaties.

You may not reproduce or commercially exploit How We Met content without written permission.

10. Disclaimer

Stories published on How We Met reflect personal experiences and perspectives of contributors.

Opinions expressed are those of the individual storyteller and do not necessarily reflect the views of First Five Magazine.

All content is provided “as is” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, or suitability for any particular purpose.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, First Five Magazine shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, reputational, or emotional damages arising from:

Publication of Story Content;
Reader interpretation of stories;
Relationship decisions influenced by content;
Submission or removal of Story Content.

Use of How We Met is at your own risk.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FirstFive Magazine from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, or legal costs arising from:

Your submitted Story Content;
Alleged defamation or invasion of privacy;
Your breach of these Terms or the FirstFive Magazine Terms;
Violation of applicable laws.

13. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Nigerian courts, in alignment with the FirstFive Magazine Terms.

14. Changes to These Terms

How We Met reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
